Getting there

Parking: Citywide: three-hour metered parking in some areas and very limited neighborhood parking in others. Large public lots open in different parts of town in summer. Parking is enforced.
Access: In the middle of town, where Broadway and Ocean Avenues meet Coast Highway. A boardwalk runs the length of the beach, and it is a short walk to downtown restaurants and shops.
Stairs & walk: Coming soon
Swimming: Mostly sand bottom (rocky at the north end near Bird Rock) with shorebreak surf, popular with swimmers, bodyboarders and bodysurfers.
Surfing: Surfing is not permitted on Main Beach during the summer months.
Tide & safety: Surf can be large and dangerous, with numerous rip currents and heavy shore break. Ocean and tide conditions change daily — check before you go and swim near a lifeguard.
Restrooms: Restroom facilities at both ends of the beach.
Showers: Outdoor showers at both ends of the beach.
